With “The reality of E-Cigarettes” meeting held at Green Crescent Headquarters in Sepetçiler pavillion, the electronic cigarettes, which became a current issue as a multi-layer problem, was discussed in detail. Green Crescent Scientific Board Member Prof. Dr. Recep Erol Sezer and Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids Eurasia Area Coordinator Olga Knorre informed university students and Young Green Crescent members about global research and prevention methods about the area.
Green Crescent Manager Sultan Işık, who made the opening speech of “The reality of E-Cigarettes” meeting, highlighted that all youngsters of the world is targeted with e-cigarettes, and not only the Turkish youth.
In the e-cigarettes meeting organized to answer numerous questions about the subject, Işık said that primarily the efforts are spent to handle unawareness, and that lack of knowledge increases the danger and risks every day.
Underlining e-cigarettes are not a tool to quit smoking, Işık said “E-cigarettes are distributed in the market as a tool to quit smoking in many countries. As part of the marketing approach, it is presented as if it a technologic accessory. Regardless, we see that many people do not possess healthy information about e-cigarettes. This situation increases the danger of e-cigarettes every day. Together with the marketing methods, as a type of style, it makes non-smokers use e-cigarettes.”
Indicating that youngsters’ use of e-cigarettes and new product use (heated tobacco use, etc) increased 3 times more compared to adults globally, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids Eurasia Area Coordinator Olga Knorre indicated that correct methods need to be utilized for the struggle.
Indicating that because e-cigarettes are marketed as an accessory parents do not find out their kids are consuming nicotine for a long time, Knorre underlined that the industry needs to be kept apart from the process while creating public policy.
Indicating that the continuation of tobacco epidemic in Turkey cannot be regarded without industrial effects, Green Crescent Scientific Board Member Prof. Dr. Recep Erol Sezer highlighted that all-out efforts need to be utilized against the global tobacco industry’s activity in Turkey. Green Crescent, with Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, within the scope of “Stand Up Against Smoke! – Dumana Karşı Çık!” project which is to end in February 2020, carries out activities focused on the enhancement and enforcement of Regulation Regarding Tagging, Controlling, and Producing of Tobacco Products published in March 2019.
