SPRING 2015
Addiction is not a one-way problem or requiring single
solution issue. The Green Crescent aims to “come to
grip with everyone before they are gripped by addic-
tion”. What are its suggestions to solve the problem
of addiction?
Once one becomes addicted to some substance or
habit, it is extremely difficult and expensive for them to
get rid of this addiction. For this reason, the non-gov-
ernmental organizations which carry out preventive
works like the Green Crescent adopted a method
which is more profitable approximately by one
in eighteen. This method is comprised of
awareness raising, training, conscious-
ness raising and abstinence. In this
way, we aim to keep our potential
target group, primarily the young
people, and the whole society
away from the possibilities of
addiction.
There are people whose addic-
tions are not yet irrevocable and
who are not much harmed by their
addiction; they can be saved if they could gain a bit of
consciousness. We address these people as well. Our
last field of work as the Green Crescent is to rehabil-
itate people who could get rid of their addiction after
receiving some sort of treatment. In other words, we
aim to channel them towards activities which could
keep them away from the trap of addiction and to
re-integrate them to the society. The Green Crescent’s
work in this field has been increasing.
WHO IS THE ACTUAL
TARGET GROUP?
Addiction threatens the young at
most. The Green Crescent struggles
against the threat of addiction with
its Young Green Crescent. Why is it
important for the Green Crescent
that the young people participate
in this struggle?
There is an average age or a group of
age for each kind of addiction.
Peer
education
is a more
acceptable,
functional and effective
method for the young.
We use it widely with
our Young Green
Crescent team.
