technique. Therefore, one session lasts for one to two

hours, and resting for at least 15minutes between

DIFFERENT STYLES

There are different styles in this sport depending on

personal pleasure and the areawhere sport is done.

Also, there are some styles born fromboth needs and

enthusiasm, resulting fromadrenalinwhile getting

prepared for the races. Some of the racing styles include

freestyle, free-ride, wake-style, down-rider and speed.

1.5 MILLION PEOPLE IN

THE WORLD

According to IKA (International Kiteboard Association),

it is estimated that there are nearly 1.5million people

in theworldwho are engaged in the kiteboarding. It is

important to emphasize that kiteboarding, which spread

fast in Turkey and around theworld, is a nature friendly

sport done in Turkish cities elected by the Cittaslow

Organization.

Kiteboarding is being done and developed in places, which

are closely followed by theworld, such as the United

States (California and Florida), Brazil, Mexico, Australia

(Melbourne), South Africa (Cape Town), Egypt, China, the

Philippines, Spain and Turkey.

KITE + BOARD = KITEBORDING

Turkey is producing its own kites thanks to Yalçın Hocaoğlu

and its own boards thanks to Salih Alexandre Chakir. Thus,

Turkey has found the opportunity to open theworld’s

doors slightlymore to the sport. Kiteboarding, which

was introduced to Turkey as “Uçurtma Sörfü” (meaning

kiteboard) by the Turkish Sailing Federation in 2013, has

been done and developed in Istanbul, İzmir, Çanakkale and

Muğla for many years.
