Professor Mücahit Öztürk, who stated
that their aim at Green Crescent Week,
celebrated annually from 1 to 7 March, is
to increase the public awareness con-
cerning addictions, said: “By calling Green
Crescent Week, ‘Green Crescent Solida-
rity Week,’ this year, to draw attention to
volunteering and solidarity, we aimed to
mobilize the community to fight against
addictions and harmful habits together
with our hundreds of thousands of vo-
lunteers.”

Green Crescent both entertained and in-
formed visitors during the seven-day
Green Crescent Solidarity Week with

Green Crescent awards individuals, corpo-
rations and organizations that have adop-
ted “a healthy life free of addictions” as
their mission and support this struggle
with both their words and actions, with
the Phoenix Award. The award ceremony
was organized for the third time this year
under the auspices of the Presidency, with
the president also in attendance. The indi-
viduals and organizations selected in eight
branches, ranging fromtheworld of art and
culture to sports, academia to politics, me-
dia to social responsibility projects, were
presented their “Greatest Green Crescent
Supporter” award on this special night.
Cycling tour of Green Crescent
On Green Crescent Solidarity Week, thou-
sands of cyclists turned pedals for an addi-
ction-free life. The Istanbul location of the
cycling tour that took place simultaneously
in Bursa, Hatay, Kayseri, Sakarya, Ankara and
Eskişehir, was the city’s historical peninsula.
At the end of the tour that kicked off at Se-
petçiler Pavilion, a draw was held, with three
people winning bicycles. National rally racer
BurcuÇetinkayaandwell-knownanchorman
SerdarCebealso joined the Istanbul tour.
Green Crescent Solidarity Week activities
included caricature and drawing workshops
and music performances by a rhythm group
in theGreenCrescent Festival Area in front of
Şişli Cevahir Shopping Mall, a 3D Video Map-
ping demonstration on the harms of techno-
logy and cigarette addiction throughout the
country, giving Green Crescent messages
at football matches played between March
1-7, walking for health; hand-in-hand, all of
Turkey said, “We are fortunate to have Green
Crescent.”
