“If you are in the public eye and have followers, you have to take
responsibility and adjust your life style in according to this. There is
no exception to that!”
Here we have a star who has been adored by a
generation. I remember our contests singing your hits
in my childhood. You are a humble and responsible star.
Obviously, you have a special journey from childhood to
adolescence. How did you educate yourself?
Thank God, I had a fascinating childhood. I grew up in
the narrow streets of Arnavutköy, Istanbul. I learnt how
to swim in the Bosporus. Thus, I gained street culture.
Today, most of the children grow up at shopping malls.
And then, I went to Switzerland where I found myself
among 1000 children from 80 different countries. I
had the opportunity to improve myself as a citizen of
the world. We had to share the roomwith two other
students from different countries. My roommates
were an Iranian and a French student one year, while
with a Japan and Italian next year. Naturally, I ended
up becoming half Italian or half Persian at the end of
the year. As a reminder, I acted in an advertisement
where I spoke various accents like Indian or Italian. This
talent dates back to those school days. People said,
“How come can he speak Indian accent?” those days.
As a musician, I store all sounds, voices and dialects
in my brain. To go on, I went to college in the USA. The
experience to live in the US for three years gave me a
unique vision. For that matter, all these experiences
helped me build up myself. If you are able to observe
and internalize the world around you, it is possible to
establish the right basis for yourself.
You were apart from family, from your mother at a very
early age and gave effort to stand on your own two
feet, which brings another responsibility...
If you believe in what you want to do, no obstacle will overwhelm you just like in Mustafa Sandal’s
story. Imagine you receive education abroad and then decide you cannot live without music, after
which you work round the clock for that purpose… Here we have the sincere pop star Mustafa
Sandal! We met Mustafa Sandal before his concert in the Green Crescent Week to talk about his
musical journey and family life. “If I can talk to you sincerely, that moment is real and precious!”, he
said, proving his candidness.
