How many Counseling Centers
are you planning to establish in
Turkey?
We aim to establish a Green Crescent
Training and Counseling Center in
all 81 provinces of Turkey, with more
than one center in the larger cities
or in cities where drug and alcohol
use is more widespread. This means
that addicts, their relatives and
anyone else who needs our help will
have free access to psychotherapists
throughout the country. Currently,
there are 36 Green Crescent Training
and Counseling Centers in Turkey.
Is it possible to establish Green
Crescent Counseling Centers in
other countries?
In fact, every model and every project
designed by Green Crescent is geared
to providing services to all humanity.
Although
our
Green
Crescent
Training and Counseling Centers are
established according to our own
unique cultural climate, sociological
characteristics
and
people,
its
structure can be transferred and
adapted by different countries. We are
open to international cooperation and
we are ready to convey any experience
and knowledge we have gained in the
field of rehabilitation.
Can you tell us about the Green
Crescent Rehabilitation Center, as
another project of Green Crescent
for the provision of rehabilitation
services?
Green Crescent regards addiction as a
problem that needs to be eradicated,
and all of its efforts are carried out
in line with this goal. One such effort
has been the establishment of the
Green Crescent Rehabilitation Center
– a national model developed in
accordance with our own culture and
values. The center was designed in
accordance with the addiction profile
of our country after analyzing the
efforts of more than 20 countries and
visiting 10 of them. It was designed as
anindividual-,family-andcommunity-
based center, and an individual-
oriented rehabilitation model was
developed with particular focus on the
family and social environment. One
of the most distinguishing features
of our centers in which we provide
medical treatment and vocational
training is the inclusion of the family
in the process. In our center, an addict
goes through a process in which
they are provided with psychosocial
support, and then acquire the skills
to practice a profession, to improve
family relations and to forge stronger
family ties. When leave 6 months later,
they do so with relationships and
relationship-building skills, as well as
a profession through which they can
contribute to society, and that allows
them to reintegrate with society. We
believe that this will have an important
and distinctive impact on our society.
With this center, we aim to revive not
only addicts, but also their families.
We believe Turkey will be much
stronger in the field of addiction in the
national and international arena with
the opening of this center.
Clearly, Green Crescent has taken this
step as a result of the responsibility
it feels toward society in the field
of rehabilitation with its century-
old experience and its wealth of
knowledge. On behalf of our country
and nation, I hope that it will be
beneficial to all.
