SPRING 2015

Yeşilay recently added a new one to its ever increasing

international activities. Yeşilay was involved in the

process of preparatory works for the United Nations

General Assembly Special Session on international

drug policies, known as UNGASS 2016. Thus, Yeşilay has

become part of the UN Civil Society Task Force (CSTF),

which consists of 26 organizations, as the regional

representative for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The

Task Force is formed of organizations active on the field

and internationally.

The Civil Society Task Force aims at assuring the

comprehensive, structured, meaningful and balanced

participation of the civil society in the UNGASS 2016

process. For this purpose activities and works will be

conducted in 9 different regions during the preparatory

process. The Task Force will actively collaborate with

institutions such as the UN Office on Drugs and Crime

and the Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

Yeşilay was elected to represent the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia on the Civil Society Task

Force for the UN General Assembly Special Session of theWorld Drug Problem to be convened in 2016.

Yeşilay will represent Eastern Europe and Central

Asia in the task force that was formed to coordinate

the works between UN and civil society during

the preparatory process for the 2016 UN General

Assembly Special Session on international drug

policy which will be attended by many heads of state

and is predicted to bring about significant changes in

drug policy.

Yeşilay will be at the center of the works to be

conducted in Eastern Europe and Central Asia as well

as the procedures carried out at the UN.

The first meeting within the scope of UNGASS 2016 is

planned to be held in Vienna, in March. Subsequently,

working meetings will be realized in various countries

and international drug policy documents will be

prepared.
