Are Children with Problems or a “Weak Character” the Only Ones at Risk of Developing an Addiction?

It is not easy to determine what constitutes a “weak character”. While family problems can certainly be a risk factor for the development of addiction, there is one fundamental fact we know about addiction: it is not determined by a person’s social role or socioeconomic status.

A person can develop an addiction whether they are rich or poor, regardless of their level of education. Regardless of their profession, social role or socioeconomic background, anyone may be at risk of developing an addiction if they do not take steps to reduce their exposure to risk factors.
