Adjust the level

The movies that children watch should be easily understo-

od in terms of subject and plot.

Don’t leave themalone

Children shouldn’t watch television on their own. Children

who are alone cannot ask any question about the scenes

which are fearful and confusing. It is beneficial for children’s

development to talk with them about the scenes they

watch and the words they hear.

Adjust the distance

Children shouldn’t watch television at a close range and

they should sit comfortably so that their eyes, muscles and

bone structures can be protected from deformation.

Don’t eat in front of the television

Eating and watching television should not be done at the

same time. The dinner table should be a place where family

members communicate cheerfully with each other.

Don’t use television as an instrument

The television shouldn’t be used as a babysitter or pacifier.

SCHOOLS PLAY A KEY ROLE

Even though the Ministry of National

Education included media literacy in the

curriculum as an elective course, it isn’t

chosen often. However, schools emerge

as the most authorized institutions that

can give education on media.

Children can study on “howmedia

should be” with their teachers. Additio-

nally, they can establish a school news-

paper or radio show and demonstrate

that media can be run with informative

perspectives that prioritizes morality

and virtues.

They can also watch and discuss movies

or cartoon films in classrooms and be-

come more conscious about how they

can be selective. They can discuss the

good and bad sides of programs they

watch on television and of magazines

they read; thus, they can create aware-

ness all together.

It

is a fact

that children

who watch television

all the time have

difficulty in

concentrating!
