INTERVENTION
AGAINSTADDICTION IN
SCHOOL (OBM) PROGRAM
The Green Crescent launched in January 2017 the
Intervention against Addiction in School (OBM) Program,
which is designed to train school counselors to fight against
addiction. Having been providing training on awareness creation,
prevention and protectionwithin the framework of the TBM
since 2014, the Green Crescent aims to prevent the development of
addictions in school in the first place. The first pilot practice as part
of the OBMwas conductedwith volunteer school counselors working
in high schools located in high-risk areas of Istanbul. These trainings
included explaining teachers how to evaluate the condition of students,
how to understand if they use substance, persuade them to seek
treatment, inform families about the situation and help them, assess
communication among familymembers, and how they can save
themselves from risky situations with the help of their families.
School counselors who successfully completed the training
programare supposed to do risk identification in their
schools andworkwith drug-using students. During
the pilot study, school counselors will be also
given supervisory support by the Green
Crescent.
