Green Crescent Week celebrated with events in Turkey and around
the world. At Green Crescent World – a festival site established
in Istanbul – messages were disseminated aiming to raise social
awareness of the dangers of addiction. Green Crescent Week was
celebrated with events held by National Green Crescent Societies in
countries such as Bangladesh, Bulgaria, the Democratic Republic of
Congo, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

reen Crescent Week is celebrated
on March 1–7 every year, and this
year, Green Crescent set up Green
Crescent World in Kadıköy Square in
Istanbul to highlight its awareness-
raising activities. Events were held
concurrently by the National Green
Crescent Societies of such countries as
Bangladesh, Bulgaria, the Democratic
Republic of Congo, Tanzania and
Zimbabwe to mark Green Crescent
Week. This year, Green Crescent also
launched a campaign entitled “I Have
a Reason to be a Green
Crescent Champion”
to
mark
this
special
week.

Green Crescent Week, glass, origami
and cartoon workshops were held in
Green Crescent World, which hosted
exhibitions, information stands and
awareness-raising activities such as
a demonstration of the dangers of
tobacco addiction using Virtual Reality
(VR) technologies. Green Crescent
Week was celebrated with great
enthusiasm not only in Istanbul, but
all over Turkey, with events organized
by Green Crescent branches.
Influential figures who are regarded
as role models in society, particularly
among young people, came together
with children, university students
and participants on the Green Stage.
Cemay Arslan, a radio broadcaster
and long-time supporter of Green
Crescent, emphasized that it was
possible spend time with other people
without being dragged into addiction.
Afterwards, ErkanKaraca, theOutfitter
for the Fenerbahçe Sports Club Men’s
Basketball A Team, spoke about his
struggle against alcohol and cigarette
addictions since an early age to the
assembled young people and children.
Green Crescent has a say in the
world
Underlining that Green Crescent
is the only NGO in the world that
fights five types of addiction, Green
Crescent General Manager Sultan
Işık said, “Green Crescent is a non-
governmental organization that fights
addictions. It is like a tree whose roots
go deep and which endeavors to grow
new leaves and fruits still today.
