GREEN CRESCENT EXPLAINED TURKEY’S ALCOHOL
POLICY AT THE EUROCARE CONFERENCE
A
t the seventh European Alcohol Policies Conference held in
Slovenia this year with 300 participants frommore than 25
countries, Turkey was represented by Green Crescent. The
topics of focus at the conference organized around the theme of
“Alcohol Policies for Sustainable Development,” were “Alcohol and
Inequalities” and “New Approaches Aimed at the Application of
Alcohol Policies.” The conference was attended by Green Crescent
Vice President Asst. Prof. w Mehmet Akif Seylan and Green Cres-
cent Scientific Committee member Perihan Torun, Slovenia and
Luxembourg health ministers as well as the first minister of Scot-
land, Ireland’s public health minister and Slovenia education and
sportsministers. Apanel onTurkey’s alcohol policieswas held at the
conference under the leadership of Green Crescent in collaboration
with the Tobacco and Alcohol Market Regulatory Board (TAPDK)
and the Turkish Alcohol Policies Platform (TAPP). Information was
given at the panel about the epidemiological studies on alcohol con-
sumption in Turkey, with emphasis on the alcohol control policies
and legal practices in Turkey, while the role of the civil society on the
application of these policies was alsomentioned.

The eighth conference to be organized by the European Alcohol Policy
Alliance(EUROCARE),willtakeplace inScotland in2018,whiletheninth
will behosted in Istanbul byGreenCrescent in2019.
