Green Crescent, which maintains a strong position in the international arena in the field of addiction prevention, will participate in the 64th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on April 12–16. During the event, which will be held online due to the ongoing pandemic, Green Crescent will share its experiences and further strengthen its global contribution to the prevention of addiction.

A separate session will be held within the scope of the CND under the leadership of the Turkish Green Crescent with the participation of the Country Green Crescents of Austria, Brazil, Morocco, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Northern Cyprus, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia and Thailand. During the sessions, the current situation and the works being conducted in the tackling with addiction will be explained to 200 countries, as well as the individual experiences of the countries.

COVID-19 and addictions among the most prominent topics

Green Crescent’s efforts since the announcement of the COVID-19 pandemic have prioritized prevention activities aimed at minimizing the effects of the pandemic on addictions , and will share its experiences in this regard with the United Nations (UN). The meeting will be conducted in three sessions entitled, "Reframing Global Prevention Practices and Policies during COVID-19", "How the COVID-19 Pandemic Altered the Involvement of NGOs in Drug Policymaking Processes” and “Learning from the Crisis – Recovery Work during the COVID Pandemic”.

YEDAM model in the treatment of women engaged in addictive behaviors

Green Crescent has carried out many studies into the treatment of women engaged in addictive behaviors, and has thus gained a leading position and considerable  knowledge of this subject that it will share at the CND session, following on from the Addiction Prevention and Women webinar organized by Green Crescent in March. Green Crescent will host a session titled “Understanding the Desistance Journey of Female Substance Abusers and the Implications for their Interventions”, during which it will explain the importance of special treatment approaches to women and the steps taken in this area, as well as the current needs and solution recommendations. The Green Crescent Society maintains a particular focus in this field through the Green Crescent Counseling Centers (YEDAM), setting an example for the rest of the world through the works it conducts in this area.
