ISAJE Annual Meeting and General Assembly Held in Istanbul
The International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE) held its Annual Meeting and General Assembly in Istanbul on September 8–9, marking the 25th anniversary of its founding. The meeting was hosted by the Turkish Green Crescent Society and Addicta: The Turkish Journal on Addictions, Green Crescent’s international peer-reviewed academic journal.
Founded in 2001 to advance the quality and standards of addiction journals, ISAJE brings together more than 50 journals specializing in addiction. Its annual meetings provide a forum to discuss key challenges facing addiction journals, editorial strategies and policies, and ways to develop a shared approach to academic publishing. Addicta: The Turkish Journal on Addictions has been a member of ISAJE since 2015.
Training Program for Early-Career Researchers Held
As part of the ISAJE Annual Meeting and General Assembly, the “ISAJE & Addicta: Training Program for Early-Career Researchers” was held on September 10 at Camlı Köşk, Sepetçiler Pavilion. Designed for early-career researchers pursuing graduate-level studies, the program brought together 35 participants. The program was conducted in both Turkish and English, with simultaneous interpretation provided throughout.
The first part of the program focused on preparing research articles for publication and navigating the editorial process. Participants received guidance on selecting a journal that matches the scope and target audience of their research, interpreting journal submission and formatting guidelines, avoiding common errors during the submission process, and using person-centered, non-stigmatizing language in addiction research.
The second part addressed the fundamental principles of peer review, the roles and responsibilities of reviewers, disclosure of conflicts of interest, evaluating editorial rejection decisions, and revising and resubmitting manuscripts in response to reviewer feedback.
Afternoon sessions covered ethics in academic publishing, authorship, transparency and data sharing, building an international publication portfolio, effective academic writing, increasing the visibility of scientific research, and researcher identity. The program also examined the opportunities and challenges surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in the future of academic publishing, along with principles for its responsible use.
Practical Workshop: From Research Idea to Protocol
The final part of the program featured an interactive workshop titled “From Research Idea to Protocol: Study Design, Methods, and Statistical Planning.” Participants engaged in hands-on exercises focused on turning research ideas into research questions, selecting appropriate study designs and variables, planning statistical analyses, and developing a draft research protocol.
